Allah ﷻ and His Beautiful Names

# About Islam

Who is Allah?

"Allah" is the most glorious name of the only one God. The translation "God" is therefore not entirely accurate, because there is no plural for the expression "Allah". However, the term "Allah" is also used by Arab Christians and Jews when they speak of God. Muslims believe that there is only one God, Whom nothing and no one is like, Who is eternal and has no partner, and neither parents nor children. He created the entire universe, including the earth with all its animals, plants, humans ect. He knows everything, even our most secret thoughts. He alone is adorable. We will return to him after our death and give an account of our deeds. Belief in the only God is part of the natural disposition of people according to Islamic understanding. In Islam there are no intermediaries between Allah and human. Everyone can turn to Allah directly with their supplications at any time.

Allah has described himself in the Quran in the following words: "Say (O Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): He is Allah, (the) One (1). Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks) (2). He begets not, nor was He begotten (3). And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him (4)." (Surah 112: The Sincerity).

In Islam the principle applies that one may only say about Allah what He Himself has told us. He deserves the most beautiful names with which He has described himself. Some of them can be found, for example, in Surah 57, Verse 2-3: "His is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, It is He Who gives life and causes death; and He is Able to do all things (2). He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (nothing is nearer than Him). And He is the All-Knower of everything (3)." This means that there was nothing before Allah and there will be nothing after Him either. He created the universe for a certain time, and He determines when its end will come.
